This 1989 house compilation features "Twilight," Larry Heard's only original song written under the name Trio Zero. One listen and you'll know it's Larry's signature track, with its sci-fi melancholy and cosmic loneliness, like the twinkling of stars seen from a futuristic city, and the warmth of House music. The vibraphone and electric steel pan tones blend in a Balearic flavor in an exquisite balance, making this a comfortable, danceable mid-tempo house track. It's a comfortable, danceable mid-tempo house. Even after 37 years, it still feels timeless, and I'm once again in awe of the uniqueness of Larry's worldview and his ability to communicate it.
I've ended up talking mostly about Larry, but this is a great compilation featuring early house, ragga house, and breakbeats from a stellar lineup!
