理論はすっぱ抜いて音だけ聴いても、ワイルドでリズミックな躍動感に溢れるオーケストレーションを存分に楽しめます。ジャケットは「外界から宇宙に向かって帯状の物体が突き出し、最初は中身が希薄だったのが、徐々に密度の濃い物体に変化していく様子を描いたジャイナ教のダイアグラム」です。
This monumental work was created by a jazz pianist, composer, and music theorist born in Ohio in 1923. It was recorded in 1983, commissioned jointly by the Massachusetts College of Art and Swedish National Radio.
Centered on the theme of Africa, the piece unfolds as a spectacular nine-chapter journey—ranging from the "Organic life on earth begins" (transitioning from single-celled organisms to amphibians) to the final chapter, "The Future?" (where the collective level of existence summons a future shared by all).
Even if you set aside the theoretical underpinnings and simply listen to the music, you can fully enjoy the orchestration, which is brimming with wild, rhythmic dynamism.
The jacket features a Jain diagram depicting a band-like object protruding from the external world into space—an object that starts out sparse in content but gradually transforms into something of high density.
